The track is still in place to Whitehorse but no trains have operated between Carcross (MP 67.5) and Whitehorse (MP 110.5) since I believe 1998 or 2000. A few years ago that portion of the line was brush cut and there are always rumors about the track being placed back in service but I'm not privy to that information. Everyone here would love to get back to Whitehorse, and a couple of weeks ago on a Yukoner weekend a bunch of locals from Whitehorse rode my train and I asked some of them what they felt about the trains coming back and they all had a similar response of liking to see them return.
This year no passenger service is being offered north of White Pass so there is a huge portion of the railroad not being used, just a work train that has been dumping ballast between White Pass and Fraser and I believe there will be some side dumping along Lake Bennett but I'm not on that crew.
I shot some video on portions between Carcross and Whitehorse that I was able to hike into back in 2018 and fortunately my computer here still has that footage. Unfortunately this computer is way to slow to edit video and uploading it to YouTube with my internet here would be impossible. I'd compare the scenery between Carcross and Whitehorse much like the areas west of Chama. Similar foliage, mountains nearby, somewhat dry climate and lots of small lakes.
