I imagine 497's tank was not worth keeping. It appears to me that the 497 got 490's tank, which is what 497's current new tender is modeled off of. 490's tank is the only one out of the ten locomotives that comes up real high over the coal space. Just look at a photo of 497 anytime before the 60's I guess. Then look at a shot of 490...
