Skip has touched on a real possible motive for the impending demise of our beloved GLRR. As an out-of-stater whos been coming to Colorado since 1980 for vacations, I have seen changes over the years up and down the Front Range. This time I looked closer at the area between Georgetown and SIlver Plume and realized something. It would make a great place for a condo/housing community like so many others going up or already built in other areas such as Vail, Dillon, Keystone, etc.
The bottom line is, housing is multiplying like rabbits from one end of the front range to the other. People are moving farther and farther up into the mountains and valleys. Housing is being constructed where two or three decades ago nobody would have thought of putting a house or condo. The prime spots are rapidly filling up. Clear Creek canyon is definately a primo location along I-70. There is prime land within the Loop Historical park that would make a great condo complex complete with its own magnificent bike trail route in the form of what will surely soon become the once again abandoned roadbed of the GLRR.
Add to this the scenario of the CDOT wanting to expand I-70 AND don't forget that real nice building just constructed next to the Georgetown exit (by the village of Georgetown) that looks SO-O-O much like a railroad station. Now wouldn't that make a great office for selling train tickets for a train operation that is doomed to failure. Dang, guess they'll just have to use that building for selling the Loop condos and promoting the new Georgetown Loop bike trail complete with High Bridge.
Look no further than the temptations of greed my friends for the answers to what the heck a certain local CHS director is up to. Personal gain. There is probably some real big money behind this and we may never know who it is until they start building their 3 million dollar mountain home smack in the middle of the loop.
Sad, to be sure.
