I keep thinking that I should step in and ask people to try to remain civil, to stop chastizing the CHS. Unfortunately I find very little to ask for (except to try to forgo the name calling).
In reality I see very little hope that the GLRR will run next year. There aren't any locomotives to pull the trains, very few cars (and none specified in the RFP so prospective operators are left guessing as to where passengers will ride), there is a demand that any operator turn over 70% of any profits realized to the CHS and "local interests" (whomever that may be), and that they secure $10 million in insurance (and they may very well need it if a new operator can't use tie plates). It appears to me that whomever it is running this little circus is hanging themselves, and taking the GLRR down with them. I would still argue that name calling is unnecessary since their actions speak louder than words, and their actions appear irresponsible.
However the bidding process isn't over yet either. As the relavent parties at the CHS read any proposals they may receive, we can only hope that they come to the realization that the business model they've proposed is unworkable and that the clock is ticking. About the only other option I see is that they will find their scapegoat, someone to blame next year when the trains don't run.
