Over the past 50 years several open areas have had vegetation grow and block the views that were available for the original Rattler. There have also been some changes in property ownership along the railroad that make it impossible to offload people at a few historically popular run by locations.
The last day of regular train operations is the Sunday before the Rattler. We will be using two crews on each train to allow us to extend trips and not violate Federal hours of service laws. This should provide many run by opportunities. Some of the run by locations will be worked out as we see the fall colors evolve in October. Sometimes a location that provides spectacular color one year will not be a good location the following year.
The Rattler is sold out on Monday the 24th. We still have 25 tickets available for Tuesday the 25th.
On Saturday, October 22, the Historic consist and 168 will be pulling the scheduled dinner train from Antonito to the Cumbres Pass Pavilion. Sunday morning, the 23rd, the 168 will pull the scheduled brunch train from Cumbres Pass back to Antonito. We also have a double header scheduled out of Chama for Saturday the 22nd.
