Russo, what jumps out at me from your pix is the surface and line of the track. The ng. may have been close to abandonment, and clearly there were a lot of weeds and native earth ballast ("through the weeds not around them"), but it was not a streak of rust like say the RGS near the end. I'm sure some parts were worse than others, but the few MofW guys left seem to have found a way to keep the railroad in decent shape. Mostly with hand tools. Probably the relatively large (for ng.) engines and long trains required decent track. Too bad more has not been preserved about the MofW side of the operation. Or is there more out there somewhere? Here are a few pix I got while waiting for trains.
