One June day I spent the night at the Revelstoke, BC KOA. There was still 2 hours of light left so I decided to go 1/2 mile down through the forest to the double track Canadian Pacific mainline. When I got to the tracks I could hear explosions up the track so I walked up there. The track was next to a very rapid flowing river which funneled through some rocks at that point. Large trees were floating into a log jam every few minutes and the explosions were the trunks snapping. I stood there quite a while until it was starting to get dark. I heard some branches snapping in the woods above the tracks but the forest was very thick so I couldn't see anything. I walked down the mains and got about 1/4 mile when I heard more branches. A 7' Black Bear strolled out of the woods, stopped and stood up and looked at me and sniffed the air. I froze. He got down on all fours and crossed the log jam! (the river went through it, not over) See, even bears in BC are friendly!
