Yup, bears love bird feeders. Sometimes even bringing them in at night does not work. as when they are hungry they will raid them in daylight.
Off of our driveway, we had a drainage pipe to reduce potential erosion on the down slope. Golden Mantle Ground Squirrels took up residence in the drain pipe, and last night a bear decided to rip-up and destroy about 20' of the drain pipe. Just a typical bear thing when they are hungry here in the Pagosa Springs area. You also have to use a dead bolt on your doors as the bears will open doors, especially if the have paddle or lever door latches.
One time when I was Steel-head fishing on the Klamath River, I had a Black Bear take my stringer of fish. It's the price you pay when you live in bear country. You have to give them there space.
