Hayden,
thanks for sharing the information. You have been doing a fantastic job that has been just beatiful.
And so much joy to follow.
But, being an European used and schooled into the metric system, the just total weird concept of gauges in the world of inches is hilarious.
Most narrow gauge railways in the UK just state their gauge as 2 ft, irrespectively if it is 578, 597, 600, 603 or 610 mm.
From what I have seen the Ffestiniog is 23 1/2 inches, Lynton Barnstaple is now 23 5/8 and Vale of Rheidol is 23 3/4 inches. And most British preserved railways with industry background are 24 inches. The nominal gauge should be an exact measure, tolerances are another thing.
I am in no way criticising your information. Being a 600 mm railway in the US must be a bit unique, but it was the original gauge of both your trench locos and several of the other locomotives of European origin, thus it is a rational decision.
