Generator Failure

On the way home from my first ng. visit in January 1960 the generator on my '53 Ford quit working, but that actually worked to our advantage. Rey Barraza, Gordon Chappell and I chased the 497 toward Farmington that morning,

and then very reluctantly headed for home via what I think was still route 66....had to get back to school.. Somewhere east of Flagstaff I noticed the gauge was showing the battery not charging. But we made it into Flagstaff with no trouble. And the unexpected overnight in Flagstaff gave us an opportunity the next morning to find steam still switching at the Southwest Forest Industries mill.

But net net I would trade that luck for some of Olaf's luck back in those days.....but he was closer.
