Description - Construct 814 foot extension to present trackage, @#$%& 100 feet of track and retire turn out (100 ') on west end of track #30, to permit operating Silverton branch trains to a stopping point closer to the business section of town to facilitate handling of passengers.
Purpose and Necessity - Formal agreement between the Railroad Company and the Board of County Commissioners of San Juan County and the Town of Silverton, incorporating the provisions which have been tentatively agreed to covering the construction of trackage connecting with the existing line and proceeding along the center of 12th Street to the southeasterly line of Empire Avenue is now being negotiated. Provisions incorporated in the agreement are as follows: (1) Town of Silverton to pass an Ordinance granting the right to lay a railroad track in 12th Street and licensing the Railroad Company to use, operate and maintain such trackage for railroad purposes. (2) The Town of Silverton to secure from the owners of Lots 21-24 inclusive of Block 32, a grant of right, privilege and easement for a strip of land 17 feet in width being 8-1/2 feet wide on each side of the center line of the track proposed to be constructed over these lots. (3) Commissioners of San Juan County to build the necessary roadbed and furnish labor to construct the extension including placing of ties and laying of rail and OTM at no expense to the Railroad Company but under Railroad supervision. The Railroad will furnish all ties, rail, and OTM for the extension. Track to be owned and maintained by the Railroad Company.
