Interesting; the term was totally new to me at the time, it was always just the Royal Gorge Route herald.

Some more tender images from the past, here is 483 being coaled for the Aug. 13, 1973 Moonlight Special, with the classic early-70s C&TS lettering. 488’s tender is just to the left, which has been scraped down to the steel and the original 1925 Baldwin lettering is visible:

One year later, 483 is fresh out of the paint shop and ready for the morning eastbound. The bead trim is all red except for the pilot, and note the dark grey counterweights. A lot of these details were later painted over with silver and black. Fritz Bauer’s white Jeep Wagoneer is parked on the hill next to the steps:

The same morning, 487 is helping 483 EB past the Jukes’ Tree:

A couple weeks later on the morning the tri-color herald was done; 483 is at the ashpit in the background (unfortunately I did not record the day):

Later this morning, 487 is being backed onto the train; Rich B is at the throttle but I don’t who the brakeman with his back to the camera is:

Landmark Status, doesn't The Silverton have that too?
