The 463 is not going anywhere. The way I understand it, the CaTS owns her right now, but they are prevented from selling, trading etc. etc her with anybody, since ownership reverts to Antonito should the CATS renounce ownership. And don't be too quick to bad mouth her boiler either. Supposedly it is of low carbon steel construction which is readily repairable. I also have heard that there are some out there with deep pockets that would fund her restoration, but are sitting on it for the moment waiting to see if the current operators can "float the ship"
I for one would be very much against any trades since locomotives are a very difficult resource to replace and the last trade I feel that the CATS came out on the short end. (The K-37 is nice, but if the K-36 is better, why trade???)
Another thing that has been overlooked is that while the 483 may be missing parts, she could still be restored, the missing parts "borrowed" from the next k-36 that goes down for restoration and from then on parts could be shuffled from loco to loco always borrowing the necessary parts from the locomotive that is down for major repairs. As time goes on, the missing parts can and will have to be replaced, since air pumps, etc do not last forever.
With 5 K-36s, a rotation is very possible with one locomotive going down for a full season of major repairs every 5 years.
