Mark,
Not very productive ? Hmmm, is that a requirement ?
You're right, it is dreaming out loud.
O.K. Lets say the current financial woes are solved, and things are running smooth again. If a K-28 will not pull enough cars, why restore a K-27 ?
Because it would be neat! (remember now, we're only dreaming here)
Besides the fact that the 463 has ties to Antonito, and Gene Autry, and all that...
doesn't the K-28 have more historical value from San Juan service than the K-27
-and vice-versa-
doesn't the K-27 have more ties to Durango, the Silverton branch and the RGS, than it does to the Chama-Alamosa line (at least in later years, which seems to be the era we are all so fond of -the "flying Rio Grande on the tenders" period...) ??
You're probably right, the 483 is too deeply tied to the C&TS to ever leave. That's O.K. I understand. Everyone calm down.
The idea of a temporary lease of a K-28 is easier to swallow, especially since the D&S doesn't have all 3 in service, anyway. (now wait, D&S guys, don't shoot! this is all speculation, just for the halibut!)
I have spent some big bucks getting from PA to Chama and riding some Jim Trowbridge trips. I'm ready to spend some more if a re-created San Juan over Cumbres powered by a K-28 ever materializes.
Take it a step further. How about a re-creation of the "Shavano over Marshall Pass" the same way RGS 455 reappeared a few years back. All in fun.
and is sitting here at the computer really productive ? Idunno...but it's fun!
Steve.
