The spur curved around the edge of a hill then terminated in a very brushy area. It was impossible to explore the last 50 feet due to the brush. I ended up hiking to the top of the small hill and then back down to the area of the large fallen rock. I encountered the remains of a skid road:
The skid road depression is barely visible in the middle of the photo. Manzanita bushes have grown up in the skid road and hidden it. The 2018 Ferguson Fire burned them up so the road is once again visible.
In the brush near the skid road I found this plate:
It's about 1 foot long. It might have been part of a donkey engine...
We drove about 1 mile in from Crows Foot to the junction of the road leading to the Signal Peak Fire Lookout and parked the truck. The Signal Peak line heads north from here for about 2.5 miles.
Here's Naomi enjoying the solitude of the forest:
The grade is still accessible by vehicle, but we wanted a nice little hike and walking allows one to pick up more details including potential hidden spurs...
Here's a view looking the opposite direction:
About 1500 feet along the grade is a spur (on the right) that led to the logging camp used in 1928:
I had explored this camp last summer, but had not gone further down the Signal Peak line.
To be continued...
