Per the Narrow Gauge News:
Engine 268 was hauled to Burnham on a flat car in 1948 and given that ridiculous paint job for the 1948-1949 Chicago World's Fair. At Burnham it was re-flued, then steamed up and tested on a short piece of 3-rail track. It was returned to Alamosa in late 1949 on a flat and stored. During December 1950 it was hauled dead to Salida at the rear of a Salida-bound freight. It was steamed up and used for the Santa Claus special December 22. In early 1951 it was hauled dead to Gunnison to replace 278 because 278 was nearly worn out, but 278 was used throughout the fall of 1952 as-needed. Unless there was business west of Gunnison, neither C-16 was kept steamed up. 278 was retired March 1953. 268 got boiler work in the winter of '52-53 in the Gunnison roundhouse and used until the fall of 1955.
268 at the Chicago World's Fair:
268 was also back-dated during 1945 at Burnham. This photo has been previously published. It's stamped on the back "Yale Photo Co, May 16, 1945."
