But what about just making a (tax-deductible??) donation instead? IIRC, the C&TS is owned by the two states, so donations should be deductible from income when computing your 2020 taxes next year. Assuming you're in the (roughly) 25% tax bracket, and have enough expenses to itemize deductions, a donation of $250 would reduce your taxes by $62.50, so your net cost would be $187.50. This is less cost to you than buying a season pass that provides the railroad with only $200 instead of $250 – a win for both you and the railroad.
Hopefully John Bush will confirm that donations to the C&TS actually ARE deductible from our federal taxes, and provide information as to how we can do this.
