On Main Street in Durango I saw only a few masks and little social distancing. Tourists I assume. Just a block away in the Town Plaza parking lot (Citimarket, Kroegers) the locals mostly wore masks and kept their distance from each other. I've lived in Durango for over 40 years and know that tourist money is what makes the town go,,,,but I would hope that tourists would have more respect for us locals. I have had a season pass for the D&S for about 12 years and know that passengers are almost exclusively from out of the area. Hopefully the railroad will require some safety measures (a mask for the entire trip???) and the crews will enforce whatever rules that the railroad has imposed.
The national CBS news had a segment on Colorado's new official slogan Visit Colorado...In your imagination. Interviews around Durango (raft company owner doesn't like it, the owner of the Rochester Hotel said that the summer money was important but the health of the community is more important
We have been lucky in La Plata County,,,70 or so cases, 11 hospitalized no deaths. We ALL like the tourist dollars but maybe not right now. How all of this is going to play out on the D&S remains to be seen. A lot of people hate masks so I imagine there will be problems but I hate to think "my" railroad would endanger the health of "my" community.
