I recall discussion about if we would go to Arizona that year or not but in the end, we went. I should note that by this time we would be driving to Pheonix, picking up my Step-Grandmother, and then taking her up to her cabin at Mund's Park (about 30 miles south of Flagstaff off I-17) where Dad and I would spend most of the next week doing maintenance on said cabin. (Why my Mom's brother, who lived in Scottsdale, wasn't doing this or at least helping out was never explained to me)
So the only real "vacation" part of it all was the drive down & back. Frankly, I'm amazed at how much I, with support from Mom, managed to talk Dad into doing on the way. Given his druthers Dad would have been on the road at 7 AM every morning and driven until dusk with other stops allowed only for potty beaks or coffee refills.
