The draft gear beams and cheek plates have been mounted on the A End (cupola end) of the new frame.
The bolts which attached the draft gear sills to the frame have been countersunk into the top of the sills (as seen on left-hand sill). Originally the bolt heads rested on top of the sills (as seen on the right-hand sill), however this will create problems with the installation of the floorboards.
All of the frame components are being installed with square head bolts with square nuts, provided at cost by Hi-Strength Bolt Company of Denver.
These bolts were made by welding a square nut to a custom length double end stud (we were not able to source the correct length of square head bolt).
The square nuts needed for the truss rods were a challenge to source. One end of the rods features 1-1/4"-7 thread, which is easy to find. The other end features 1-3/8"-6, which is next to impossible to source in a square nut. Fortunately we were able to source four pieces from a vendor who wanted to be rid of them for cheap.
The attachment of the draft gear beams also includes keys between the draft gear beams and the center sills.
