ET&WNC #10 & #14, which according to ET&WNC records were purchased by the USATC for use on the WP&Y in May, 1942. According to shop pictures and information. The ET&WNC was going through the process of over hauling its 4 large ten-wheelers, 10,11,12, and 14. #10 was completed first and return to service in Jan 1942. #14 was in the middle of overhaul work when the engine was purchased. If u look at the photos the #14 is nice and clean and #10 is dirty when they were on the flat cars. Ironically the engines were shipped w/o whistles. #10 and #14's whistle are still in the south. But from what we gathered is that #10 and #14 when they arrived at WP they had to under go modifications and some routine maintence. Some reports have indicated that some boiler work was done on #14. Which could be possible if the overhaul work was not finished in Tennessee. #10 did go into service almost a month before #14. #10 was the most powerful of the ET&WNC ten-wheelers, it had a 3/32 extra lead on the inlet ports in the cylinders. The other 3 did not. Saidly these engines were lost in the roundhouse fire of 1943. They were good little engines, I run the #12 at Tweetsie, it totally blows the #190 out of the water when it comes to pulling. I would trade #190 for another ET 4-6-0.
