The Dept. of Railways stuff is in the BC Archives and in private collections, not online. There are no pictures that I'm aware of.
The late Vern Wellburn initially told me about it and the story of his father considering its recovery for his forest museum, I guess at the time there were so many good logging engines around that it just didn't make sense to recover the wreck. Another issue I've heard about over the years is that the island is privately owned by folks who aren't too partial to visitors.
I tend to believe the lore for three reasons:
-Vern's story,
-Dept of Railways documentation listing the engine as wrecked and not recovered,
-The sheer cost of getting it off the island for scrapping in the 1920's or even during the 1940's war drives.
