That altitude does have a tendancy to preserve things much longer than at sea level, rather than turning any untreated wood to either moss or mush.
The LMB (Leadville Mineral Belt) has a lot of right-of-way left, too. After looking at the Ibex Branch map and getting a copy of the LMB and C&S Leadville Yard Valuation maps, then mentally throwing in the Colorado Midland and their branch up to the Yak complex...
It makes me wish for a time machine and a good 35 mm. camera (forget digital for long term preservation). If only.... sigh.......
Oh well, I got quite a few photos of buildings, like the old Wells Fargo Express barn and the D&RGW Freight Depot, in place, which were torn down or moved in the name of "Cleaning up that old stuff".
