Such is true, if you pinch off your garden hose it takes a REALLY SEVERE crimp (almost folded back 180 degrees) to completely shut off the water and I had mostly air coming back with the water after 10 minutes or so after shutting off the pump.
When the Antonito train stopped for us to measure the pipe, there was nothing else in the frost house other than the 3" pipe coming out of the ground up to the tank. If the only restriction was at a end of a 2,300' 3" pipe I would have had the longest woosh of air in history when we opened the ball valve at the pumphouse.
