The caption to the first of the above photos reads in part, "
The nice green paint job given to the boiler jacket by the Durango shop crew who volunteered their time to repaint the engine didn't last too long which is unfortunate." So maybe you have inadvertently stumbled upon the answer

WHEN did the D&S shop crew paint the jacket of #493?
IF prior to 2006 or '07,
MAYBE the "Old Can of Boiler Jacket Enamel" found in the shed in Durango wasn't so 'Old' after all, and
MAYBE Jeff Ellingson based the paint he developed in 2006 or '07 on some paint that was first created only a couple of years before – according to the specs of his predecessor in the D&S paint shop, NOT by the D&RGW back in the 1920's – THAT could explain why it is definitely more blue / less olive than the replicated 'Moffat Green' used by the CRRM on #491
