Dan et al,
The C&TSRR depends largely on the photos of our train for the publicity and marketing for our train. We are providing an experience to riders who are not generally railfans.
We used green as the passenger car color for 20+ years starting when we first put the clerestory roof cars in service. We found that it did not hold up well and did not result in dramatically attractive photographs. As a side note I will point out that as soon as the gloss was gone off the green it resembled "army olive drab" a color chosen by the military for its camouflage quality.
The maroon/burgundy color produces better and more compelling pictures. Our research indicates that this color is appropriate for passenger equipment from 1870 to 1918.
