I'm thinking it was the early 1980's when La Veta was discontinued as a crew change point. After that Pueblo based crews ran all the way to ALA. That put Jim Shawcroft 4th out on an engineer's board with two jobs. The only way he could work was if someone went on vacation and the other guy laid off sick. Jim worked quite a bit for the C&TS then. there may have been some helper jobs out of ALA for a while in the early 80's.
I believe the engineers then were Eldon Morgan, Jim Pearce & Carl Jack. followed by Jim Shawcroft.
