I have no idea when they started running through La Veta but in the end they did run Pueblo to Alamosa. But at the time when all this railroading building was being done it was two crews either way, but as hank pointed out the La Veta route was quite a bit shorter. La Veta LOOKS like a much tougher climb than Poncha but apparently it is not if Earl's numbers are correct.
