Do not forget dry wood termites. They do not need ground contact to live, breed or eat. Subterranean termites ( the ground type) can build tubes as much as 3 feet high to get to wood and they will go through old ties that have any loss of treatment. Pretreat the soil before final placement for the subterranean type and look for dry pellets falling from wood members that are the sign of dry wood types.
