Despite its rough looks, most of the rot damage to 608 is superficial. With the exception of one end beam andart of one side sill, the frame is in like new condition. The wall structure will require some splce repairs to the posts and cross bracing ( mostly in the areas where the end and side sill are bad) and the roof structure is completely OK. though painted various colors from its 120 years as a shed and cabin, the interior wood is fully intact and none of it needs to be replaced.
The car will be restored, not replicated. The only wood in the frame and structure that will be replaced is that that has totted away to the point of nonexistance (I would guess 10% to 15% at most). All of the lettering will be saved. Though plans are not final, they are leaning towards saving as muchh of the original siding and paint on the car as is possible.
DSP&P 608 is an amzingly original artifact and is restoration will be undertaken in a manner that will preserve as much of that originality as possible.
