A few "Phraudographs" from this past summer. All are digital images converted to black and white (gray scale) in Photoshop.
4944. No. 315 at Chama, cropped slightly to take a modern day observer out of the right margin of the image.
5024. Extra 315 East at the exit from the Narrows. The fence posts and beautiful ballast with prominent shoulders are pretty clear indicators of the 2016 photo date. Not sure if the telegraph line should be visible in this photo, but probably it should.
5351. Crossing the Los Pinos River eastbound. Again, the ballast is a pretty clear clue to the age of the image.
For comparison, look at Russ Sperry's 1968 photo of the westbound freight in the rain near Sublette. Notice the very different track structure with the 'native ballast' where the ballast is peaked at the track centerline, and sloped to the tie ends for drainage.
