For the next adventure, for reasons I don’t recall, I changed to Black & White film. Scanning B&W negatives is a different world from doing color slides. I’m not really satisfied with the results I have here, and might go back and rescan these later. Lots of these look like pencil sketches instead of photographs.
Tuesday, October 12 saw 489 headed east to tow 495 back from Antonito. There was snow on the ground as 489 got her fire cleaned over the ashpit. To have enough braking power to bring dead 495 off the hill, we are taking the 12-car Chama consist up the hill, setting it out, the running light to Antonito.
Here we have the train set out in the siding at Cumbres, Gary followed along in his truck, to help with the set out and then drove to Antonito while Russ and I ran 489 east. That’s Gary climbing down off the first box car after setting the hand brakes.
We made brief stop at Osier, probably for pics before heading down to Rock Tunnel
