Hi,
As far as SG locos are concerned, I first met S&A 750 in 1969 (I was 14 or 15). She is owned by the Atlanta Chapter NRHS and pulled all the SERM excursions out of Atlanta for many years. The Southern Steam program used her and I rode many an excursion behind her from 1969-1973/4. College took much of my time and excursions became relatively rare.
The classic Southern freight paint black with white trim and graphite smokebox and a primer red roof and tender deck and coal bin is my hands down favorite. [add] All dressed up.
The second most memorable steam impression was [in 1972 ] seeing the southbound D&RGW Silverton north of Durango with the loco moving through the weeds. The track was not visible from the road but the counterweights seemed to be walking through the grass without any wheels.
