After ex-Sperry-menting with a globe and a table lamp, it seems to me that -

If the photo was taken early in the morning, the shadows would be pointing away to the WEST, and the camera pointed WNW or WWNW.*
And if the photo was taken late in the evening, the shadows would be pointing away to the EAST, and the camera pointed ESE or EESE.**
