It now 102 years ago! I just ran onto the attached article from Feb. 10, 1916, related to the same period of snow fighting on the SVRy and thought it should be archived with this thread. I am not sure what newspaper the article came from. Note in the article, that the writer does not know his geared locomotives, and refers to the snow plow train as made up of 3 Shays and SVRy #4. We know from the photos that it was actually a Climax, 2 Heislers plus SVRy mogul #4. The writer also missed the mark slightly on the ownership of the locomotives, since the Climax #3 was owned by the Baker White Pine Lbr. Co., not an Eccles operation. One of the Heislers was WHEccles #3 which operates today at SVRR. I had no idea that it had ever been used all the way west to Prairie City and back. I presume that the engine noted as #3 which was derailed at Dixie was SVRy consolidation #3. Who would have thought that a train was ever ran with 5 locomotives, 3 of which were all numbered #3.
