There was more to this than just minimum lost time. The bearing wasn't yet smoking or smelling. Alan could tell by listening as the car went by during a photo runby. The car with the hot box was a high side gon with a non standard journal size which the supply of brasses in the caboose didn't include. Ronnie and Marvin had to grab one from the shop, drive to the point nearest the railroad and then hike cross country to where we were stopped. They emerged from the underbrush and the brass was replaced pronto. A great example of the teamwork that keeps the C&TS running. I can't say enough about how great these guys are to work with.
