Yep, got her hooked up nice and tight in the Company Notch. 2 water cars and the crummy aren't much behind 484. I doubt she even knew they were there. If the valves are good and square, a 480 will run hooked up 2 notches from center and run like that all day.
The late Jim Pearce - former D&RGW Durango engineman and Road Foreman told me they regularly had to run water cars to fill cisterns for the section houses along the RR between Durango and Chama. If they were still doing this in 1966, I do not know. But one would see a water car tucked in behind the locomotives fairly often between Durango and Chama.
I question its use to fill a water tank. Those two water cars would barely put a dent in a 50k gallon water tank.
