Jonathan,
I understand that you did this map for fun. I map for fun as well on my free time, I take no money doing it as well. All i get is the wealth of information that others have gathered over the years and put it into a mapping data base. It takes me a long time to do it. I just finished mapping out the Rio Grande, Pagosa & Northern from Lumberton to Edith and Flaugh, it was a lumber railroad that existed from the 1890's to early 1900's. It took me 4 months to complete, working on it for a few hours at a time. Patience is a virtue and to me mapping is all about quality and getting things as accurate as possible. I spend days if not weeks looking at maps from sources such as the USGS, ICC, Forest Service and others who have prepared maps on their own. Then I spend weeks piecing them together on Google Earth and locating and pin pointing locations of the railroad grades and work from there adding sections to one another. Sometimes I am able to over lay ICC valuations maps into Google and trace the routes in that way as well. I will be honest, I have never been to Southwest Colorado yet, Its on my todo list for this coming summer. Been to Central Colorado and Denver, but thats about it.
It is great that you live in Southwest Colorado, it is an amazing place to live! Exploring old right of ways sure is fun retracing where the rails went. I don't know if you have them or not but the CRRM sells ICC valuation maps that can help you layout rail yards and sidings and also help in locating ROW in tricky often developed areas of the state. They have maps of the D&RGW, Midland Terminal, Colorado Central, Colorado & Southern to name a few.
I am no way a professional nor claim to be one either, but there is one thing I learned in life. You have to be able to take criticism from others. I did and it helped make me better at what I do. I did not mean in anyway to come off as an @$$ to you. We all start somewhere and continue to improve everyday. I am willing to give you some help if you ever want it. I don't know how old you are but its great that you are interested in mapping the railroads of your state and that you have interest at all in doing them, that's amazing!
We have witnessed valley
and plain and crest,
Canon and pass we've scanned;
We have seen the best
of the glorious West,
by the trail of the Rio Grande
