Hello again -
John West's photos clearly show that the two lower wires were gone by December, 1961 -
even though the wooden brackets for the insulators were still in place.

As to the ballast (or lack thereof) on the first few miles south of Antonito, here are close-ups of two photos from 1968 and one from 2008:
The low two-span trestle at m.p. 286.72, seen above and below in 2008, was replaced with a corrugated steel culvert in early 2009 . . .
