It seems like every so often I have to post some response to this issue. The EN 12 is staying in Nevada. Colorado has enough of its history, but when it comes to Nevada everyone wants to take our history some place else. It started with Hollywood in the late 1930s and lasted until the late 1970s. More Nevada locomotives have been in movies and television series than any other. Since the 1970s, we have made a concerted effort to get our rail heritage back, to restore it and keep it running. The EN 12 may not have been in the movies, but it is our heritage. Much interest has been shown here in restoring it but in the meantime it has to get in line with other projects. One was the Glenbrook, which was restored to operation last year and the other is the Governor Stanford's Promontory Car which is gradually getting into the pipeline. We have a limited, but dedicated staff at the NSRM CC and BC. but eventually they get the job done.
It might be mentioned that California has many Nevada locomotives and cars, but I never hear anyone suggest here they be returned to Nevada. The locomotives Sonoma, Empire, Genoa, Bowker come to mind, as well as the cars Silver State, Nevada Central (MSV) combine, V&T car displayed with the Genoa all came from Nevada. They spent most of their working careers on the Nevada Central, Virginia and Truckee. None of them run and sit stuffed and mounted. At least here in Nevada when we do get around restoring something, it goes back into service
So my suggestion is be patient. We'll get the job done eventually.
