I saw the locomotive last weekend with the recently installed Museum Director, a long-tome acquaintance. The new Director is a long-time railroad preservationist and appreciates all manor of railroading; but, with an emphasis on the narrow gauge.
As expressed here (or was it on RyPN.org) before, it probably will not go back to Colorado. While it was only in service in Nevada for a short time, it has resided in Nevada for a long time. And it is one of the few survivors from the Eureka-Nevada. (The EUREKA was gone before the operation was reorganized and renamed.)
From what I heard, the locomotive is in surprisingly good condition. Part of this is that the Uintah installed a new boiler. I got the impression that in a few years, it may have a more complete survey regarding return to operating condition.
But then, who knows what will happen in the future.
