Jim G. is better equipped by his career as a road engineer to get into this sort of thing. The # of feet I think that you mention is from MP0, however, every mile is not 5280' in terms of mile markers. The first mile from the Baker depot is well over a mile. When you get to places like the Sumpter Valley where the line was relocated due to dredging the surrounding mile markers didn't change, so some of these tabulations of ft. would not fit as time went along. Also the railroad did something funny with Sumpter proper. Sumpter was really located on a spur off of the main if you think of the main going around the wye at S wye and up the grade. I am not where my historical materials are to confirm this, but as I recall they included the distance up the spur to Sumpter from S Wye and back again in the mile post positioning.
