OK, I've been studying the blueprints for a while and several comments come up:
On the Styx and Alder Springs Siding maps; The 'Match Line 1967.+80' looks to be due north-south so I turned them to get a better idea of how they line up with Google Earth (I haven't looked into how you guys are doing the overlays yet, I get distracted by that stuff too easily). It looks right and the Match Line seems to go right through Telephone Spring at about 4750' elevation on Google Maps:
Telephone Spring
For some reason, Bruce's (BCP) Sumpter Valley Ry trackage overlay shows up when I switch Google to map view, not sure if that is because I have it open in another tab or if it is actually now a part of google maps!
There is a derail at 1962.+25 at Alder Springs, for safety, I'm sure. The siding is 998' long (at the points, not clearance).
There is a switch at 1893.+11 at Larch to the downhill side that I suppose goes to a logging branch. On the satellite view you can see the line, it goes off pretty much the opposite direction of the main at the same curve angle like it is a wye but continues straight SE for 100 yards or so then becomes a squiggly line that heads to one of the heads of Huckleberry creek, not sure if that is the roadbed or just a newer trail. This doesn't show on the map on page 40 of SR&P but I think that map is approximate. That map shows Oregon Lumber Co coming up Huckleberry Creek from the valley, stopping just into the hills. Larch siding is about 1918' long. The right-of-way is 100' wide for most of this area, 200' at Larch.
Interesting McEwen and Whitney are just about the same elevation, about 4150 according to the elevation contours, just about 1000' below Larch at 5080.
I am Interested in finding out more about the logging branches off the line between Sumpter and Whitney, I think this is what I want to model.
I figured out the main numbers:
Section 20, Township 10 South, Range 37 East WM (don't know what WM stands for) shows up in the corner of the Alder Springs map
MP 37 equals of course Milepost 37
20(degrees)00' C.L. is the radius in degrees of curvature per 100' of each curve (I'm sure there is a simpler way of stating that)
(delta)170°00' is the section of the curve in degrees (Styx Trestle is on 170(degrees) of a 20(degree) curve (286.479' radius), total length of the curve is 850', the trestle is 270' long, 54(degrees)).
L.C. 850' is the length of track at the curve.
But what do the smaller numbers mean after Match Mark and each point marked on the track mean? They all seem to go up as you go West but I don't see a correlation to the mileposts.
OK, just figured it out: the distance (from Baker?) in hundreds of feet +2574'?!? (figured off of MP37, I can't quite read the number at MP35).
I did double check my math but I used some special characters there (degrees and delta) so it may not come through correctly for all...
Still learning...
