Looking through the post here I get the feeling that Rio Grande (whether it was a seperate narrow gauge group or the main shop force in Denver) did have an amazing and talented work force on Locomotive rebuilding and modification strategies. Seeing that in the twenties and thirties they rebuilt the K-27's from simples to piston (Walscherts included) they completely designed and built the K-37's. Somewhere in the mix they took a narrow gauged engine and standard gauged it to run between Durango and Farmington then changed it back.
Why is there so little history on these men and how they accomplished such amazing feats? Plus keep the rest of the Rio Grande fleet in tip top condition. There must be some history out there if these men and how they accomplished these amazing tasks.
Still a Student,
