Tom Masterton wrote "Mountain Enginemen" a book about the Fireman's perspective of NZR in the 1920's and 30's and from two of the three worst Depots to operate from, Taumarunui and Cross Creek. Excellent read if you can find it. He fired the useless Garratt's that NZR bought back then and the Fell Centre Rail Tanks on the Rimutaka Incline. It was written in the Kiwi vernacular so most would be probably lost on you guys... without a translator smiling smiley
