I don't think you can say the Rio Grande was any different or better than a lot of railroads steam people. Just look at N&W and Santa Fe's developments in steam. And how about the PRR, MP,,Reading, and C&O just to mention a few who did some marvelous things with steam. Many shops like the Frisco and IC turned slow 2-10-2's into massive, powerful, and fast 4-8-2's.

Just my opinion, others may vary.
