Thank you for the information. I had also been wondering why the C-18s had a slightly higher tonnage rating vs. the tractive effort. And the heavier weight of the C-18s is the answer. I have seen photos of the RGS borrowing C-18 #319 in 1949 when C-19s were available, so I was looking into the tractive effort , but engine weight is also a part of the equation. I am curious why the D&RGW didn't then add weight to the 340-349 locomotives to increase their tonnage rating when they had a higher tractive effort than the C-18s.
