One of the cylinder castings (left?) is from a different locomotive.
The history on the tender is a little vague in my memory. I want to say the tender came from some sort of work equipment at one time, but I might be wrong about this. In the 90s, the cast step on the right side was torn off by a fork lift that was parked too close to the track south of 8th ave yard.
The throttle lever was altered, so the engineer didn't need to stand up to work the throttle.
The only real damage after hitting the fully loaded gasoline truck was a bent step and a crack on the cow catcher! This was about 1998.
Grapevine first talked about acquiring 2252 when they took over the passenger operation after 2000. The city of Roseville said "no" and moved it out of their fair grounds to the Amtrak station.
There were also at least two earlier runs to Grandbury in the mid 1990s with 2248. On the second trip out of Grandbury, 2248 pulled the train tender first to Cresson where she was wyed. Passengers were allowed to ride the platform behind the smoke box. It was fun looking down the boiler into the cab as the engineer backed up the heavy grades at speed.
