Our local model train club TWMRC in Ft Worth , Tx went on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad ride this last weekend . We got a shop tour and were told 2248 will be back in steam in June. I was lucky to have done the dinner train to Granbury complete with a train robbery back in 1998 with my children and their grandmother. We thought it was a nice excursion never to be done again. It has now turned into a real tourist trap with all stereotype fixings you would expect in Texas. The steam engine is there , it runs in gaudy paint on the weekends and the stockyards are overpriced but you can still see some of the original cowboy stuff and what it was once like. There is a narrow gauge locomotive I believe from Hawaii next to it in the shop, but no track to run it on. The SP mikado is rusted out in the boiler and so are both the tanks in the tender. The running gear is restorable and it is still rollable. 2248 I believe has replaced welded boiler and tender has new tanks. Earl would know ? Bright spot my granddaughter and I got a cabride in the ATSF gp7 , little blondes get lots of perks. mktjames
