Goofy paint seems to be a Texas thing..... In Rusk is was painted red, white and blue and numbered "200" for the Buycentennial and had that hideous Espee-applied balloon stack. TExas State RR was infamous for its interpretations of historic steam locomotive paint jobs. The first paint job it had under FWWR had gotten toned down a bit by the time I got there. The most evil thing FWWR ever did was to nick-name the poor old girl "Puffy"...... Makes my skin crawl to type those words..... When Grapevine took over the operation, they did away with the "Tarantula" name, and painted the "P" word on the side of the tank.
I think I just threw up a bit.
When discussing paint, one must remember the Texas State RR and the Tarantula Train were the creations of the same individual - Ed McLaughlin.
2248 is not too top heavy, just keep her away from areas of notable seismic activity.
